INFLUENCING PARAMETERS IN BONE DRILLING
Since fracture or crack of human bones means disturbance of the bones integrity, it is necessary to return the bone as precisely as possible into its previous position and to immobilise it to insure maximum avoidance of motion at the fracture site. In order to achieve optimal immobilisation, i.e. fixation, and subsequent maximally successful knitting of the separated parts of the bones, a surgery needs to be performed on the patient. During the surgery, the bones are fixated by means of the support plates and screws, which requires drilling of bores in the bones. The drilling causes the occurrence of the axial force of the drill penetrating the bone. If the axial force fails to be adequate, there may come to overheating, damaging of the healthy tissue and subsequent problems in the knitting of the bones. This paper presents the results of research realised in measuring the axial forces of bone drilling depending on the selected influencing parameters.
