SPECIFIC MAIN GRINDING FORCE IN CREEP FEED GRINDING AND SINGLE POINT DIAMOND DRESSING

Specific main grinding force in machining by means of defined geometry cutting tools, such as e.g. turning operation, milling, drilling, has been studied for various workpiece materials and chip cross-sections. The previous testing has shown such dependence of the specific main cutting force on the chip cross-section , that the increase in the chip cross-section reduces the value of the specific main cutting force. Although this field has not been sufficiently studied in grinding processes, similar dependence of the specific main grinding force is expected on the equivalent grinding thickness. With adequate conditions of grinding and dressing of the grinding wheel cutting surface this paper measures the reduced main grinding force, and calculates the specific main grinding force and the equivalent grinding thickness, thus determining their interdependence.
