Medium-Voltage Circuit Breaker Current Path 3D model: A Case Study
This paper presents a case study of medium-voltage circuit breaker current path 3D model. The motivation for the case study is the temperature rise test results prediction. The paper describes the process of model construction of vacuum interrupter spiral contact, upper and lower circuit breaker terminals. Using Ansys Workbench, the resistance of the current path is calculated and compared with the values available in the literature. The contact resistance of the spiral contact is modelled as contact bridge/cylinder. The influence of the contact cylinder position on the spiral contact area is investigated. Two approaches were taken, symmetrical position and random position of cylinders. The results show that the symmetrical approach is more suitable from the modelling point of view, as it gives predictable results, although the nature of the contact spots is random.
