Design Process Representation In The Development Of Design Support Environment
Mechanical design process can be modelled as a sequence of transitions from an initial state of data, constraints and goals to a final state of the designed mechanical artefact, or as a sequence of activities to obtain a complete set of information about designed artefact. Characteristics of some particular design process are dependent on the nature of design problem, features of product being designed, manufacturing technology, and many other factors in the environment in which the design process takes place. Designers build their world while performing the design process. Thus, we believe that intelligence added to the current CAD systems should enable future systems to act as apprentice to the designer, with the designer as a key-player of the system. Prerequisite for such designer-apprentice relation is development of a standard environment in which they can act and communicate, i.e. design using available set of (design) tools according to some plan. To realise such approach we will present a model for design process representation based on a design plan.
