The Ethical in the Tractatus: Transcendental and Performative
Wittgenstein uses the adjective “transcendental” several times in his Tractatus when he talks about the nature of logic, ethics, and the subject. His insistence that the Tractatus points to the limits of language and logic while hinting at the importance of the “ineffable” and “mystical” for philosophy as an activity, leads us to question the relationship between the transcendental and operative or performative.
