Istrian Hagiographical Tradition in the Context of Political and Ecclesiastical Change in the Early Middle Ages
Recent hagiographic, philological and historical research on Aquileian and Istrian martyrs provides insight into the editions available in the Passionaries that have been circulating in the north Apenine area from the ninth to the eleventh century. This work presentation will include the examination of the passions of two “Istrian” martyrs: Saint Maurus from Poreč and Saint Pelagius from Novigrad (Emona). The passions of these two martyrs have been chosen on the basis of their specific characteristics. The work will not overlook the detailed analysis of various elements of the passions, but it will focus on detecting the elements indicating the date of textual transformation or adaptation of the passions.
