Online media and human security in the COVID crisis: case study of Croatia's failed vaccination campaign
After more than eight months into the COVID crisis, Croatia began its campaign for vaccination against COVID-19. As of November 2021, around 50% of adults have been vaccinated against the virus with one dose. While many are reluctant to accept the vaccine, the number of daily infections raises rapidly. The amount of disinformation surrounding the vaccine is increasing on a daily basis. Apart from the disinformation campaign, numerous online media report on the vaccine and the vaccination campaign within certain media frames. Media framing and disinformation are two separate occurrences, but both have the potential impact the vaccination campaign. Since the influence of online media is greater than ever before, the need for objective reporting has become prominent. The authors of this paper aim to show what role did online media had in the Croatia's campaign for vaccination against COVID-19, and its impact on health security in that regard.
