Design and Optimisation of Hydrodynamic Pumps

Hydrodynamic pumps are simple and cheap devices with fluctuation-less delivery, which functioning is based on hydrodynamic fluid flow. Disadvantage of these pumps is relatively low efficiency, the problem that can be partially overcome by choosing the optimal dimensions. Relatively low efficiency is not problem in low-power working conditions that mainly exist in high-pressure/low-capacity and low-pressure/high-capacity pumps, when the total amount of driving power is relatively small. One interesting idea is to replace expensive pump and flow resistors in hydrostatic lubrication system with a completely equivalent system supplied by a set of cheap hydrodynamic pumps incorporated in the same housing. In such a case, low efficiency of pump is compensated by eliminated damping of removed flow resistors ; the overall efficiency and functionality are preserved, but the whole system become much cheaper.
