Kirurške bolesti koksofemoralnog zgloba u pasa

Injuries of the coxofemoral joint in dogs that require surgical intervention are mostly caused by motor vehicles (53%-83%), since a large amount of force is required to cause such injuries. Operative treatment of the injuries of the coxofemoral joint can be grouped by their causative origin into: traumatic conditions, developmental conditions and acquired conditions. Due to the fact that the coxofemoral joint is a very stable, firm and surrounded with muscular tissue, force to disrupt it has to be great. Genetic predispositions that disturb the stability of the joint increase the probability of injury to the joint. With that said an example can be given with hip dysplasia where genetically conditioned hip instability can result in such damage that the hip can be salvaged only by a total hip replacement. The choice of the procedure in regard to a conservative or operative treatment depends on: age and condition of the patient, degree of injury, surgeon ability and the available equipment of the clinic along with the methods of diagnostics. The goal of every surgical procedure on the coxofemoral joint is the return of function. Time elapsed between the occurrence of the injury and the procedure is an important factor in the success of therapy and the degree of the return of function. Elongation of the time between the occurrence of injury and the procedure greatly increase the chance of relapse, onset of ostheoarthritis, degenerative joint disease etc. Every surgical procedure has to meet the requirements of perfect repositioning, stable fixation, and early mobility, in order to reduce the potential occurrence of postoperative complications to a minimum. Financial aspect is an important factor in some procedures of the coxofemoral joint, that is because the price of a procedure can cost several thousand kunas without the price of the postoperative care and rehabilitation included.
