Effect of age and comorbidities on the decline of glomerular filtration rate in chronic myeloid leukemia patients discontinuing tyrosine kinase inhibitors

In this Letter to the Editor, the authors comment on the results of the study by Okamoto et al. which suggested that long-term tyrosine kinase (TKI) treatment in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients may be associated with kidney dysfunction, irrespective of the TKI type and the TKI discontinuation. We discuss the potential methodological flaws of the original study and suggest further analyses which may provide additional information regarding kidney function in CML patients after TKI discontinuation.
