High red blood cell distribution width might predict thrombosis in essential thrombocythemia and polycythemia vera
This single-center retrospective study investigated the impact of red blood cell distribution width (RDW) on thrombosis-free survival (TFS) in patients with polycythemia vera (PV) and essential thrombocythemia (ET). Higher baseline RDW correlated with clinical and laboratory parameters associated with a higher degree of clonal myeloproliferation and systemic inflammation. Moreover, higher baseline RDW predicted an inferior TFS in ET and PV patients, independently of higher-risk disease status.
