Sant'Oronzo nei reliquiari medievali a Zara e Nona
Two late eleventh century reliquaries (one kept in Zadar and the other in Nin) are decorated with embossed figures of various saints. Saint Oronzo is shown on both of them. On the Zadar reliquary he is depicted as a martyr in the company of his brothers, so he is certainly one of the Twelve Brothers, martyrs, whose relics were trensferred to the palatine chapel of St. Sophia in Benevento in the second half of the 8th century. On the Nin reliquary Saint Oronzo is depicted as a bishop, which means that he is not the same saint. Bishop St. Oronzo, also martir is the patron saint of the city of Lecce and some other places in southern Italy. Reference is made also to the cultural ties between Zadar and southern Italy during the 11th century.
