Unpredictable relapses in seronegative autoimmune encephalitis
Autoimmune encephalitis (AE) refers to a group of dis-orders that are mainly characterized by the presence of specific antibodies. A subtype of encephalitis with no detectable antibodies in serum or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is termed seronegative autoimmune encephalitis (SNAE). This sub-type of encephalitis accounts for 7–11% of patients with AE [1]. We report on two patients with somewhat different disease patterns who both fulfilled diagnostic criteria for SNAE and were followed up for more than 5 years.
