d-band quantum well states in ultrathin silver films on V(100)

We report an angle resolved photoemission study of d-derived quantum well states (QWS) in ultra thin silver films grown on V(100). We have demonstrated a complete confinement of the electrons of the d-symmetry within the silver overlayer films suggesting a perfect reflectivity of the vanadium-silver interface. The energy of the QWS were find in very good agreement with tight binding calculation as well as with the phase accumulation model analysis.
