Sustainable Development and Teaching Visual Arts
The modern Croatian education curriculum introduces a number of crosscurricular topics within the framework of interdisciplinary education, one of the topics being sustainable development. This cross-curricular topic encompasses three dimensions of sustainability: economic, environmental, and social. The connection of these topics prepares students for appropriate action in society to achieve personal and general well-being, resulting in the progress of society as a whole. This paper discusses the possibilities of developing ecological thinking through conversation and creation with pupils and students. All this emphasizes the important role of visual arts in society nowadays in the context of raising awareness of environmental issues, which introduces students to thinking about sustainable development. Artwork made with various didactically unshaped material and waste material can make students aware of the importance of sustainable development and can influence the development of students' artistic and aesthetic sensibility, resulting in interdisciplinary education. The paper presents the works of pupils and students motivated by the topics of sustainable development.
