Bond Strength between Resins and Alloys using Silicoater Technique
Silicoater technique is a recent bond system which solves the problem of fracture and detachment of a veneer from prosthetic constructions, preventing fron rising gaps in the margin area between the metal and resin, and make mechanical retentions unnecessary. In that way it makes possible to produce less voluminous metal constructions and to prolong aesthetic durability of fixed prosthetic appliances. The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate Silicoater technique on the most commonly used a11oys and resins for producing fixed prosthetic appliances. On 24O specimens divided in groups and subjected to water storage and thermocycling, bond strength was investigated. Silicoater technique was applied to two aIloys and combined with three resins. According to the results obtained, it can be concluded that Silicoater technique did not enlarge bond strength values on investigated Ag-Pd alloys compared with the results obtained with mechanical retentions. However, the combination of Silicoater technique with mechanical retentions provides bond strength values which stay constant and independant from water storage and thermocycling.
