Ovarian tissue bank

Science has made significant advances in malignant diseases treatments resulting in the current decrease in cancer mortality rate. However, medications and procedures used to fight cancer may be efficient, but they can also leave unwanted side effects, especially when it comes to fertility. Ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC) is a promising procedure used for fertility preservation in prepubertal patients as well as in adult patients who are unable to undergo ovarian stimulation due to the lack of time. So far, excellent results have encouraged many European hospitals and fertility centres to include OTC in their fertility preservation programs. Today, ovary tissue banks already exist in 23 European countries, and Croatia is proud to become the 24th. Considering all the studies and promising results, OTC as a fertility preservation and restoration technique is now clearly ready to be translated into clinical practice and no longer considered an experimental technique.
