Analysis of the stability of oxide-fluoride melts in refining steel processing electrometallurgical processes
Mass transfer processes were studied in partial systems CaF2-Al2O3, CaF2-SiO2 and CaF2-H2O leading to temperature dependence of Gibbs energy of reactions. Equilibrium constants were calculated for ladle and ESR conditions for reactions forming volatile components AlF3, SiF4 and HF (at 1 873K KAlF3 = 1, 03 10-8 mm Hg, КSiF4 = 5, 93 10-4 mm Hg и P2HF/H2O = 5.649·10-4). Some CaF2 losses observed during steel refi ning are not eventually regulated by mass-transfer reactions but rather processes between metal, oxide-fl uoride melt and gas environment.
