Economic Approaches to Public Administration
Administrative science is rooted in the need for interdisciplinarity between different scientific fields and for taking into account the social characteristics of the functioning of public administration or the wider public sector. The societal purposes and objectives of public administration or the wider public sector need to be taken into account and the instrumentation of the different scientific fields adapted to them. Selected examples of the use of economic approaches and methods to measure efficiency and effectiveness in public administration and the wider public sector demonstrate the need for interdisciplinarity. The models presented have been used to improve the management and quality of public services in the areas of tax administration, administrative units, police, local authorities, education and health. They have confirmed the requirement that it is not enough to be efficient in our work, but that we must also be effective.
