Influence of manifest motor characteristics on success in a judo bout

Statistically significant interrelationship between the motor variables and the criteria of successfulness in a judo bout in a standing position was realized in the manifest space. The analysis of interrelationships between manifest motor variables made it possible to detect a statistically significant correlation with the applied criterion that was used to assess technical efficiency in a bout: maximal value of an evaluated action (R = .45). The relatively low coefficients of correlation between manifest motor variables and the success in a judo bout are explained by a high complexity of judo, the successfulness in a judo bout being affected by the whole series of motor, functional and other abilities, and the application of basic motor tests. Consequently, it may be concluded that a larger number of morphological tests of a specific character should be used in future research aimed at the same goal to cover a wide sphere of a judo bout. If it had been possible to carry out this experiment on a larger number of bouts as the criterion and the larger number of manifest motor tests as the predictor set of variables, more significant correlations between the predictor set of variables and the criterion of successfulness in a judo bout would have been obtained. Likewise, it is realistic to assume that a higher percentage of explanation of criterion variables would have been obtained in the manifest space if the situation-related tests had been used. Since this was not the case, then the results obtained in the motor tests in this way make it possible to explain only the smaller percentage of variance of the variable success in a bout in a standing position.
