Verso una patria ostile. Le migrazioni nell’alto Adriatico nel secondo dopoguerra: questioni interpretative
The article discusses the intertwining between politics, history and memory in relation to the migrations from the Upper Adriatic after World War II. Since the Nineties, and in particular after 2004 when ‘Giorno del Ricordo’ was introduced as a national day of remembrance, the collective memories of the Istrian refugees (seen generally through two most emotionally events: «exodus» and «foibe») became one of the main pillars of the new national Italian identity. At the same time, the difficult process of integration of the Istrians in what they saw as their «homeland» (Italy), as well as the history of those who decided to remain in Yugoslavia (as the new «Italian minority»), were pushed into the background.
