OVERVIEW OF THE LINE SURGE ARRESTERS APPLICATION IN CROATIAN TRANSMISSION NETWORK

An experiences related to implementation of line surge arresters on overhead transmission lines in Croatian power system, which are used due to transmission line lightning performance improvement, reduction of overhead lines outages and increasing reliability of the entire transmission system are presented. The first part of this paper describes the pilot project of line surge arresters installation on the 110 kV overhead line Ston - Komolac from its beginning and reports about conducted m easurements. Second part of the paper describes a pplication of line surge arresters on other 110 k V overhead lines in the Croatian transmission s ystem and shows comparison of total number of f ailures and failures caused by the lighting.
