Mission-Driven University through Business Psychology Perspective
The paper raises questions (and awareness in general) about the necessity of changing some usual university norms and paradigms to improve our university environment (both for students and professors) with the ultimate goal of improving the skills and knowledge of our students and their better preparation for the labor market. That is in line with the definition of business psychology, but here just translated for the university purpose. The perspective from which I will look at this is mission-based. The content of this paper consists of four main points. I will first highlight some typical characteristics, let's call the old-fashioned notion of the university and the academic community. I will try to show how the role of the university has been changing for some time. After that, I will look at the additional impact of the current COVID-19 pandemic on our university world, which further complicates the whole story. But to go a step further than mentioning problems, in the third part, I will offer a solution proposal, in the form of mission-driven universities, as new paradigms of the future universities. Finally, before conclusion, through some examples I will indicate how mission-driven universities can function.
