Optimization of Railway Station Infrastructure Layout in the Function of Rail Safety and Capacity Improvement - Case Study Turopolje Railway Station
The paper analyses the impact of the railway station infrastructure layout and the related train control logic on railway safety and capacity. The analysis performed within the case study for Turopolje railway station located in the Republic of Croatia, where the Croatian national train control system is applied, defines the factors that can negatively affect railway safety and station capacity. In order to improve the existing situation a modification of the infrastructure layout and a new associated train control logic in the station have been proposed. The new station layout comprises the new dead end tracks with the purpose of better flank protection and ability of setting more train routes in the same time and thus avoiding station intervals. The results of this research proved that the application of the new solution can improve railway safety and increase station capacity.
