Measurement invariance of the Fear of Intimacy Components Questionnaire across gender and relationship status
The Fear of Intimacy Components Questionnaire (FICQ ; Sobral & Costa, 2015) is designed to measure fear of intimacy in romantic relationships through two dimensions: fear of losing the self and fear of losing the other. The authors reported satisfactory factor validity of the instrument in studies with Portuguese participants. The aim of this study was to assess the measurement invariance of the Croatian version of the FICQ across gender and current relationship status of the participants. The data were collected in an online study with 560 adults (75.7% women ; 64% currently in a romantic relationship) in the age range 18–54 years. First, we verified that the specified two-factor model fitted the data well in all subgroups. We then followed the standard steps in measurement invariance testing, including configural invariance, factor loadings invariance, structural covariance invariance, and residual invariance. As indicated by the results of the multigroup analyses, the two FICQ dimensions are equally measured across groups by gender and relationship status.
