MEDULLATED WOOL FIBRE PROPERTIES AFTER ENZYMATIC SCOURING
Although enzymes have been employed in textile processing for many years, there is a currently renewed interest in possible benefits offered by enzyme processing in wool industry. Enzymes have become a relatively cost-effective, pollution-free means of treating wool fabrics for dehairing, pill-preventing, shrink proofing and handle modification. According to some researches, enzymatic treatments of wool can cause some surface and inner-structural changes in wool fibres that can be reflected in fibre properties chiefly its physical-mechanical properties. In this work influence of enzymatic scouring e.g. scouring with different amount of enzyme complex &#8220 ; Bactosol WO&#8221 ; in scouring bath, on the properties of scoured medullated wool, was investigated. On the basis of the results obtained for scouring yield, wool whiteness its alkali solubility as well as physical-mechanical characteristics for the conventionally and enzymatically scoured medullated wool, an optimal amount of enzyme complex that should be added to scouring bath is proposed.
