Minimisation of Friction in the Radial Bearing with Hydrodynamic Lubrication
Some research of possible minimisation of friction in the cylindrical radial bearings with hydrodynamic lubrication is presented. By analysis of numerical data, the expressions for instantaneous determination of optimal clearance and required dynamic viscosity are invented, which minimises friction without any increase of production cost. Obtained energy savings can be significant. In addition, the minimised friction results in minimised working temperature and prevents overheating of bearings cooled by natural convection. Therefore, in some cases, the additional forced cooling can be omitted. The proposed approach in design of cylindrical radial bearings with minimised friction is explained on the numerical example.
