Excess of catechols compared to HAuCl4 did not induce change in proton signals of L-DOPA or dopamine Original signals disappeared and different oxidation products were observed when HAuCl4 was in excess compared to catechols New signals correspond to dopamine-o-quinone in the case of dopamine, in contrast to L-DOPA where oxidation went one more step further via cyclization to dopachrome.
