Corrosion Monitoring of Reinforced Concrete Using Ground Penetrating Radar
Chloride-induced corrosion is one of the major problems leading to premature degradation of reinforced concrete structures. In addition to destructive testing to determine the presence of chlorides and corrosion, non-destructive methods have also been used for assessment. Nevertheless, research aims to improve the non- destructive methods and increase the accuracy and effectiveness in the inspection of structures. In this work, the characterization of corrosion is based on Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) amplitude observation. The main objective is to relate known phases in the corrosion process to changes in the signal. It was found that corrosion simulated in the laboratory can be related to changes in the signal due to corrosive agents and the formation of corrosion products.
