Sažetak
The European Union, as well as Croatian legislation, prescribes strict controls before putting the wine on the market. Over the past decade checking quality, originality and the traceability of wine has improved by the rapid development of sensitive, robust, efficient and affordable analytical methods. The aim of this study was to investigate the discrimination ability of simple enological descriptors for authentication purposes and to evaluate possible differences between Croatian varietal wines originating from different protected designations of origin (PDO) for the vintage 2015. The results of physical chemical analyses of wine samples are obtained in the process of control before placing the wine on the market and are comprised of the following parameters: relative density, alcoholic strength, total alcoholic strength, total dry extract, sugar-free extract, reducing sugars, content of total acids, non-volatile acids and volatile acids, ash, free and total SO2, pH, and an important additional variable – the sensorial quality of the wine by the OIV 100 points method. In this study 700 wine samples from four cultivars (Graševina, Plavac mali, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay) were analysed with the aim of predicting a wine’s origin. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) were used to test their power for authentication purposes.
