Seismic Analysis of the Krk Bridge
The Krk Bridge comprises two large reinforced concrete arch bridges &#8211 ; ; the Krk I and the Krk II Bridges, which connect the island of Krk with the Croatian mainland over the island of St. Marko and were built in 1980. Over the last decade, Croatian Institute for Bridge and Structural Engineering performed numerous visual inspections, static and dynamic field tests and numerical analyses to estimate the structural safety and durability of the bridge. Part of this investigation was assessment of the seismic performance of the bridge. Seismic analysis was performed according to the relevant clauses of Eurocode 8, with the special emphasis given to the influence of the characteristics of the chosen bearing system on the bridge&#8217 ; ; s dynamic and seismic safety.
