DESIGN AND TESTING LABORATORY APPARATUS FOR MATRIX ACIDIZING ON CORE PLUGS
The most important concern of matrix acidizing is to increase the formation permeability by removing minerals particles near the wellbore enlarging pore spaces. To accomplish this, the acids (HCl, HF) has been utilized successfully for many years to stimulate the sandstone and carbonate formations, but still it has many complexities connected with appropriate laboratory tests for acidizing matrix. This paper presents the results of laboratory investigations, design and testing laboratory apparatus for matrix acidizing on core plugs which allow the use different acid combinations (HCl, HCl:HF). Vacuum condition enables the maximum penetration of acid into the core samples. Different tests have been performed on the core plugs before and after the acidizing treatments. The analysis consists of permeability, porosity and % of mass change. There is more increase in permeability, less than porosity, but these results confirmed that laboratory apparatus for acidizing on core plugs is more appropriate than analysis on milled rock samples.
