Position specific differences between basketball players in some anthropometric and motor parameters
The main aim of this study was to identify possible position specific differences between top level college basketball players. Participants were 94 basketball players, divided in the groups regarding their playing positions – guards (n=41), forwards (n=39) and centres (n=14). The test protocol consisted of anthropometric measurements, motoric tests measuring speed, agility and power. One way ANOVA and post hoc Scheffe test were used to determine differences between groups. Results showed significant differences between playing positions in most of the variables. As expected, guards were shortest an leanest. Additionally, guards achieved best results in all motoric tests, while centres displayed lowest results. Given the diversity of roles in the game, the results of this study are in accordance with expectations. In future researches, it is necessary to analyse the differences between drafted and non-drafted players for each position in order to determine the predictive validity of the combine test protocol.
