Association of body height and weight with situational explosiveness in top level Handball
The aim of the study was determination of associations between anthropometry and situational explosiveness in top level handball. Variables included ; body height and body weight, fastest shot, fastest sprint, and highest jump. Subjects were 412 handball players that participated at European handball championship 2020. Correlation between observed variables was calculated. Results show very small association of body dimensions and situational explosiveness. Height and weight have negative influence just on sprinting, while height has positive influence on jumping. Correlation was found at P - positive correlation of BH and jumping (0.30), and at LW – negative correlation of BH on sprinting (-0.31). It can be concluded that basic anthropometry doesn’t influence significantly explosive performance in real game situations of top-level male handball players. Modern handball players at all playing positions incline to be within lean mesomorphic somatotype that allows them to be tall and explosive at the same time.
