Decomposition of phenol and Reactive blue 137 removal in different types of corona reactors
Efficiency of Hybrid corona reactors for phenol decomposition and reactive azo dye Reactive blue 137 has been studied. Corona reactors, or electrical discharge reactors, involve high voltage electrical discharge in liquid phase and produce reactive species such as O3 and OH&#61623 ; ; that degrade and remove organic compounds from water solutions. Hybrid corona reactor were created with change of configuration of so called &#8220 ; ; standard &#8211 ; ; reference&#8221 ; ; case corona reactor, high voltage electrical discharge only in a liquid phase, and produce high voltage electrical discharge in liquid and in gas phase. The role of zeolites for phenol degradation and dye removal also has been examed. In experiments for phenol degradation following zeolites: Fe2+ZSM-5, NH4+ZSM-5 and H+Y were used. Three groups of experiments were perfomed: with hybrid corona reactors, eith zeolites and with hybrid corona reactors in a combination with zeolites. Best results were obtained in both hybrid, serial and parallel, corona reactors in combination with zeolites Ž Fe2+ZSM-5 and NH4+ZSM-5, especially with Fe2+ZSM-5 (92-94% of phenol was degraded). HPLC method was used for monitoring of phenol decomopsition. For dye removal experiments were used zeolites: NH4+ZSM-5, H+Y and Na+Y. Same groups of experiments were made like for phenol degradation. Best results were obtained in hybrid serial corona reactor without zeolites (85% dye was removed). Dye removal in hybrid parallel corona reactor was enhanced by adding zeolites, especially NH4+ZSM-5 and H+Y (93-97% dye was removed). It was showed that dye removal was better in hybrid parallel corona reactor than hybrid serial in a presence of zeolites. Results for dye removal were measured by UV/VIS spectrophotometer at wave length &#61548 ; ; max = 610 nm.
