CO2 emissions from back up facilities for covering wind power plant production variability vs. installed capacity and output
Last year paper presented estimation of CO2 emission from back up facilities for covering wind power plant (WPP) production variability: This research is now widened to six year long period using available data from Croatian WPP production annual reports issued by Croatian Transmission System Operator Ltd. (HOPS d.o.o.). Special attention is given to installed WPP capacity and average annual output of WPP in order to find out how they affect to overall CO2 emission from back up facilities. It is worth of mentioning that WPP installed capacity grew from approximately 400 MW in 2015. to over 800 MW in 2020. where WPP in testing operation or under construction are included. Gas power plants (GPP) is considered for purpose of back up facility as already presented in previous research and natural gas is used as primary energy source.
