Method for Remaining Useful Life Prediction of a Light Aircraft Landing Gear Structure
Unlike transport aircraft, there are no prognostic methods in the design and maintenance processes of light aircraft. Experience-based methods determine the time to failure of aircraft parts. This research develops a method to predict the remaining useful life of a light aircraft landing gear structure based on aircraft usage data. Light aircraft operation is defined to determine the operational loads acting on the landing gear structure. Fatigue damage is determined by numerical strength analysis of a landing gear structure model. The remaining useful life of the landing gear structure of a light aircraft is calculated. Significant parameters affecting the uncertainty of the prognostic results are identified. The remaining useful life of the landing gear structure is compared with the usual maintenance intervals used to maintain light aircraft.
