Finite element analysis of ABS printed lattice structure
Extremely complex structures such as lattice structures are possible to be produced with various additive manufacturing techniques. Mechanical characteristics of such 3D printed lattice structures depend firstly on material from which it is made. Further, it also strongly depends on the topology of the structure itself. By varying of topology of the lattice structure, the physical response of such a structures can be significantly different and accordingly it can be easily adopted for a specific case. This research deals with the originally designed 3D printed lattice structure from ABS plastic, which is analysed both, experimentally and numerically in means of uniaxial compression test. By both, experimental and numerical analysis, force – displacement curve was obtained and compared. In numerical analysis, previous analysis of mesh sensitivity study was performed in order to determine mesh convergence and conclude which finite element mesh is appropriate in order to get reliable results. This research can be used as a guide on how to set up a numerical simulation to get reliable results in simulating such a structure.
