Evaluation of scoring systems in swimming results
The research was carried out to determine if specific scoring systems in swimming are sensible and precise enough in detection of real quality of the result described with FINA points. The sample consisted of 132 swimmers (76 boys and 56 girls) aged 13. Data processing and statistical analysis in Statistics 13 provided the basic descriptive parameters: Mean, Standard deviation, Minimum and Maximum value. The distribution normality was tested by the Kolmogorov - Smirnov test which established normal distribution for all variables. Pearson’s correlation coefficient and T – test for independent sample were used. The statistical significance was determined on the level of p<0, 05. The study determined that both tested scoring systems, Power points calculator and Rudolph table, are sensitive and precise enough to evaluate quality of swimming result. T – test showed that boys and girls have statistically significant difference in mean of all variables (result in 100-meter freestyle, FINA points, Rudolph table) except in variable Power point calculator.
