DIMENSIONAL STABILITY INFLUENCE FACTORS IN EXTRUSION OF WIDE THIN-WALLED SOLID SECTIONS
This paper shows our experience in solid die design and corrections that are used for extrusion of thin walled wide solid sections. Two types of sections having diameter/thickness ratio of 112 and 122 respectively were analyzed. Aluminum alloy 6063 was used and sections were extruded by means of weld pocket and weld plate dies in the experimental part of the work. All investigations were performed on production hydraulic extrusion press having maximal force of 25 MN. The influence of extrusion temperature and the shape of weld pocket on the dimensional stability of extruded sections were analyzed. The results of investigations can be useful for industrial practice.
