Direct Evaluation of a Silent Vessel Passive Detection Structure
The paper treats direct evaluation method of the statistical optimal detection of the vessel noise in the presence of deep-sea ambient noise. The acoustic signal, of the so-called silent vessel, is a sum of the extremely weak zero mean Gaussian stochastic process with a finite variance and a finite number of sine waves with approximately stable amplitudes. Also it is assumed that the deep-sea ambient noise is the zero mean Gaussian stochastic process with a finite variance too. The direct evaluation method of the statistical optimal detection of the vessel noise is considered in the frequency domain. To evaluate the structure performance for the passive detection of the silent vessel we have to consider the probability density functions of the reduced likelihood ratio for both statistical hypotheses: null hypothesis H0 and alternative hypothesis H1. The direct evaluation measure is the value of detection probability function versus the value of false alarm probability, with the signal-to-noise ratio as a parameter.
