Trametes versicolor – a promising fungus for a variety of sustainable industrial applications
Trametes versicolor is one of the most investigated white-rot fungi, capable of excreting various hydrolytic and ligninolytic enzymes while growing on the lignocellulosic biomass. In this work, the potential of T. versicolor application in sustainable manufacturing based on lignocellulosic biomass utilization is presented. Various options for the production of T. versicolor enzymes involved in the biodegradation of lignocellulosic biomass are highlighted, focusing on laccases. The use of this fungus in lignocellulose-based production of feed, biogas and biofertilizers is a perspective solution to achieve bioeconomy and sustainable development goals. The case study on T. versicolor application in biogas production is presented as follows: a) process scale-up of corn silage treatment by T. versicolor from the laboratory vessels to a solid- state tray bioreactor ; b) pilot scale experiments on anaerobic digestion of cow manure and biologically treated corn silage ; c) techno- economic study of the newly developed biogas production process.
