Inverse method for load identification of components containing crack-like defects
To assess the integrity of structure, it is necessary to know the load of its components and crack parameters. Using the eXtended Finite Element Method (XFEM), an inverse modeling proce- dure is developed to identify unknown load of components containing crack-like defects. The approach is limited to static linear elastic problems where the applied loads on the structure are estimated from the measured strains. The optimal number, position and orientation of strain gauges on a component are determined for different crack sizes and orientations. In order to verify the inverse approach, several numerical examples are analyzed with the specimen of various geometrical shapes such as three-point bending test (Figure 1), four-point bending test and compact tension test.
