Making A Replica Of A Traditional Woven Belt
The paper presents the production of a traditional woven belt on a loom, according to the original pattern. By analysing the weaving technique, colour and width of the original speciment, it was concluded that the subject fabric (kanica) belongs to the folk costume from the island of Ugljan in Zadar County. The aim of this research was to conduct a detailed analysis of the original woven belt pattern, which encompasses its historical and technological aspect. The analysis performed by fabric decomposition results in relevant data on yarn properties (raw material, fineness) and structural fabric parameters (weave, density, width), crutial for making a replica of the subject belt. The selection of raw materials and yarn colors, definition of warp and weft colour pattern, as well as further procedures of warp pulling into two sheets and reed according to the original pattern and adjusting the belt width in the reed, and finally weaving, contribute to the ultimate goal of achieving the most credible replica. According to the final result of the woven fabric, it can be determined that a replica of the woven belt has been successfully made, which corresponds almost completely to the original specimen in terms of construction and visual parameters.
