Characterization of UV fluorescent coating modified with TiO2 nanoparticles printed on polymer substrate in flexography
Luminescent pigments are used for protective purposes, as well as special effects on the print. The aim of this research is to optimize the mechanical and surface properties of the UV luminescent coating for the flexographic printing technique, by adding variable amounts of silicon dioxide (SiO2) nanoparticles to the UV luminescent varnish. Prints on two types of paper were analyzed by measuring their surface and mechanical properties. Surface free energy and mechanical properties of the coated prints were measured. Specifically, tensile strength of the prints and bending stiffness were analyzed ; and analysis of their optical properties using spectral reflectance measurements was performed. The results of the research have enabled the optimization of the luminescent coating properties by choosing the concentration of SiO2 that improved the mechanical properties of the print, but without a negative impact on the surface and optical properties.
