Reliability-based mould design
The development of science and technology has enabled manufacture of products (systems) with very demanding exploitation requirements. This often means high reliability requirements regarding components, sub-assemblies, assemblies and the whole system. Generally, the reliability problem of technical systems is in strong correlation with the increased sophistication and complexity, as well as the system automation level. Therefore, the sudden development of a number of methods used to determine the reliability of technical systems during their design, manufacture and exploitation is understandable. Taking into consideration these methods during the very development of the system, one may speak of a special approach to designing which is based on the reliability of a system (i.e. Reliability-Based Design). The mould for injection moulding of thermoplastics is a complicated and complex system. It is at the same time a specific element of the system for injection moulding of thermoplastics, so that determining its reliability represents a specific task. The work encompasses an overview of the basic assumption of the theory of reliability, and the possibilities of its application in designing the moulds for injection moulding of thermoplastics.
