Protetski aspekti povezivanja donjih frontalnih zubi vlaknima ojačanim kompozitima (FRC)
The adhesive technique of fixating an extracoronal splint is based on attaching the FRC structure onto the etched enamel. The bond between the FRC splint which sits on the lingual and partially on interdental surfaces of the tooth is achieved by the microroughness of the enamel and the use of composite adhesives. The indications for conservative primary splinting by FRC are the following: no preparation and risk for tooth vitality, no need for local anesthetics ; it is esthetically acceptable ; possible to repair with easier periodontal prophylaxis and it is the more cost-effective solution. Contraindications have to be considered in cases of significant changes in the occlusal relations because a treatment by crowns would be required in such a case. There is no possibility of greater load transfer from a partial denture to the periodontium of the remaining teeth, and the esthetic correction of the position, shape and color of teeth splinted in such a way is limited. In all of the 30 cases, the FRC splint did not last less than three years. By binding the lower anterior teeth an FRC splint increases their functional value (masticatory, esthetic and phonatory) and the ability of static and dynamic group loading (intermandibular and occlusal relations). The prophylaxis of the periodontium has been made easier compared to the conventional fixed-prosthodontic solutions.
