Automatic segmentation of cortical layers in histological images of human brain

Here, we investigate the features of individual neurons used in classical machine learning pipeline for cortical layer segmentation. Histological slides of human cerebral cortex are used in a pipeline that automatically localizes and segments the neuron bodies, derive their characterization and learns to classify them within the six-layered cortical structure. The results from this research form a foundation in our development of a neuron- level cerebral cortex investigation framework.
