THE ANALYSIS OF STUDENT ENROLLMENT AT THE COLLEGE OF SLAVONSKI BROD AND THEIR EMPLOYABILITY IN THE CROATIAN LABOR MARKET

The development of modern society is inconceivable without the systematic development of the individual, especially in education. Education, significantly higher education, has become imperative for human progress and prosperity. Until recently, graduation was the privilege of a minority that was highly talented and/or successful, and the act of graduation was the crown of success—becoming an academic citizen guaranteed better employment, higher income, better status in society. The situation has changed quite a bit since then. Society is facing daily progress in all spheres of human activity. New progress inevitably leads to new and greater demands on individuals, regardless of their level of education. Becoming an academic citizen is no longer the privilege of fewer people, and getting a degree does not necessarily mean having a better-paying job. Modern society is exposed daily to the increasing challenges that need to be prepared promptly, which implies constant education and new knowledge and skills. There are various roblems in the Croatian higher education system that represent a significant obstacle to Croatia’s long-term development: hampering changes in the higher education system, not monitoring labor market trends, and world quality standards neglecting the strategic importance of secondary vocational education. The common link between these problems is the gap between the reality of the world we live in and the imaginary world for which Croatian universities prepare students. A degree is most often the only goal in this imaginary world, with no interest in fundamental practical knowledge. The paper will outline the structure of students who have completed their studies at the College of Slavonski Brod and will be analyzed their employability after graduation for five years (2014-2018). The data presented will be compared to the needs of the labor market. During the research of facts and possibilities that currently exist, to formulate the research results in this paper, the following research methods are used in a different combination: historical method, the method of analysis and synthesis, classification and description method.
