Fracture Analysis of the SKL 14 Series T Bolt Rail Fastening System
Material fatigue is in practice the most common cause of fractures of machine-building elements. In the case of structures that are loaded with high loads, low-cyclic fatigue occurs, ie fractures and failures occur with a relatively small number of load cycles. The system of screws and nuts SKL 14 is defined by railway standards that clearly prescribe the materials and microstructural conditions in which individual segments of the system must be processed in order to separate the anticipated number of cycles in service life. In this paper, the T bolts of the SKL 14 system are analyzed, in which cracking occurred in a relatively short time after installation on the railway infrastructure. The analysis of bolts shown by the materials used is not in storage with the norm that the bolts are not adequately heat treated which affected the occurrence of deformation in the assembly process which ultimately resulted in initiation and propagation of cracks before received material fatigue after a small number of load cycles in operation.
